Facebook Friday 2/2/2018
Hi friends!
It’s time once again for Facebook Friday!
Did you see these posts on my Library Learners Facebook page this past week?
Online Video Stories for Black History Month
I shared this blog post from Shannon Miller’s Library Voice blog. She wrote that Storyline Online added 6 picture books especially for Black History Month! The stories include:
- Rent Party Jazz, read by Viola Davis,
- As Fast As Words Could Fly, read by Dule Hill (from Psych),
- To Be A Drum, read by James Earl Jones,
- Catching the Moon, read by Kevin Costner and Jillian Estell,
- No Mirrors in My Nana’s House, read by Tia and Tamera Mowry,
- White Socks Only, read by Amber Rose Tamblyn
Each video also has a link to a Teacher and Parent Activity Guide. What a great, interactive way to add learning for Black History Month!
Fairy Tale Book Club
I shared a picture from my fairy tale book club that meets after school. After reading Rumpelstiltskin, we were building castles out of marshmallows and toothpicks. One of my little first graders pulled out a tooth, started calling her “Princess Tooth” and built a castle around her. It was just one of those fun, funny library moments!
As you can see, she stuck a tissue in the gap, and let it hang out of her mouth as she kept on building!
Flu Season, Germs, and Computers
I shared a link to this article from Edutopia about how to keep the germs at bay in your library. In addition to the obvious solution of using disinfectant wipes, the article includes a recipe for slime to clean computer keyboards.

You would definitely have to throw away that slime after cleaning computer keyboards with it!
Friendship Fun Library Centers
I shared my new and improved Friendship Fun Library Centers TPT product. It includes library centers, read alouds, chapter book “hooks” and discussion questions for a month of library learning.
In our elementary school library, I focus on friendship during the Valentine month of February.
I hope you’ve had a wonderful week, and I hope you find time to relax, recharge and watch the big football game this weekend!
