The Frozen Library

Hi friends!

I’m not sure what level of intellectual sophistication you expect from my blog, but this post is purely about FUN! I want our library to be the most fun, magical space on our campus, and I want our students to eagerly look forward to their visits.

So, here’s what I’m up to now…

We’re gonna get Frozen, all over our library in January and February!! Our students dressed as Frozen characters for Halloween, and they know the complete lyrics and choreography to “Let it Go.” It’s safe to call them devoted fans of all things Frozen! I know they’re gonna love this!

Looking forward, our book fair will be at the end of February, and you already know that I consider Scholastic’s chosen theme as optional. I’m going to start decorating our library in a Frozen theme, culminating with our book fair!

One reason I made this choice (besides the universal popularity of this movie), is that Oriental Trading makes it easy (and fairly reasonable) to decorate.

Here’s what I’ve ordered. (Disclosure: all images are owned by Oriental Trading or Disney, and I have no affiliate links or financial interest in these products.)

One wall will be covered with this nine by six foot Winter Wonderland Backdrop. ($16)

(I bought a skyscraper backdrop from Oriental Trading for my superhero decorations, and it was brightly colored, and way better than anything I could create with butcher paper! It could probably last a few years, if you’re careful about how you attach it to the wall and take it down. I think these are a great value in decorations!)

I’ve also ordered cardboard stand-ups of Anna, Elsa, Olaf, and Sven. We’ll use these as photo spots when families visit our book fair in February. Until then, they can be reading buddies for student to share stories with! These are each $35 and about 6-7 feet tall.

And there are Frozen stickers that I’ll give away to book purchasers at our book fair. There are party decorations, like snowflake glitter, table decorating kits, and table cloths.

I bought some snowflake wrapping paper at half price sales after Christmas, and I’ll cover our library doors with that paper.

I’m really looking forward to making our library a magical escape this winter. I can’t wait to see the look on their faces when our students walk into our Frozen library!

    1. Great idea! My music teacher did a Frozen holiday music program during the book fair, so our book fair in December was a “Frozen Wonderland” with snowmen and snowflakes galore. It was a big hit (and the highest grossing book fair in the school’s history)!

    2. Oh. How. Fun. I ordered some stickers to give away before the break. Maybe they’ll eventually come in. Orders done this “new way” are SLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW. But seriously. Post pics.

    3. I love this idea! I always go “all out” when decorating for our Book Fairs and believe it really helps build up the anticipation for everyone (students, teachers, and parents)! I usually decorate our main entrance door the weekend before we officially “open” for sales, and it’s always fun to see their faces when they walk into school that morning! Good luck, and don’t forget to take pictures! I’d love to see them! 🙂

    4. We viewed Frozen as our holiday movie right before Christmas Break. The students dressed as a Frozen character or wore their pajamas. It always a treat for us-teachers wear their pajamas as well. We hung snowflakes and icicles from our ceiling on each hallway. (They were the plastic kind that can be reused.) We also had several of those blow up (they have fans under them to inflate) snowmen in spots throughout the building. We also hung colored strips (in Frozen colors, of course!) from doorways-tied back like you would a curtain. (The strips were cut from $1.00 plastic tablecloths.) Some of our staff dressed up as some of the characters. There are also cute and easy crafts you can make-the Olaf figures made out of socks is cute and easy. Please post pictures after your big day!
