Summer Bucket List with GoNoodle and Marla Frazee
Are you starting to talk about summer and summer reading with your students? Here’s a fun, simple lesson I just shared in my elementary school library.
First, I read aloud a fun summer book, A Couple of Boys Have The Best Week Ever, by Marla Frazee.
This picture book, a Caldecott Honor book , is full of fun things two boys do during a week of summer vacation on a California beach. You’ll need to talk about the illustrations and the speech bubbles, rather than reading straight through the book.
After we shared the story, we talked about making a bucket list of things we want to do this summer. I used the printable bucket list from GoNoodle.
2024 UPDATE: That GoNoodle bucket list is no longer available. Here’s a free download from TPT that you can use as a substitute.
We brainstormed as a group about different things we could do during the summer months. Then each student can complete their bucket list, and either color the page, or turned the paper over to create their own list of books they’d like to read over the summer.
You can extend this into 2 lessons by having a second lesson where students search your online library catalog and write a list of books they’d like to read this summer on the back of their bucket list paper.
We had a great time thinking about all the things we can do this summer! Are we there yet?
This is a great idea. I will have to keep this in mind for next year! Would have loved it for this week…. Thanks for sharing!
